Wyoming Prison Reforms

Wyoming Chronicle "Wyoming Prison Reforms"
Airs Friday, December 14 at 7:30 PM

Wyoming Chronicle will take a look at two distinctive reform projects underway in the state corrections system. We begin with a visit to the Wyoming Women's Center in Lusk where a prison nursery for pregnant inmates is being constructed. The program will conclude with an interview with Lynne McAuliffe, Dean for Workforce and Community Education at Central Wyoming College and program director for the Second Wind Project (see below), a new comprehensive program aimed at helping young adults, who have been in the juvenile justice system in Wyoming, to succeed in life and avoid entering the criminal justice system as adults.

Second Wind Project

Nationally, over seventy percent of young persons involved in the juvenile justice system, who do not receive intervention, will most likely end up as adult offenders, according to Lynne McAuliffe, Program Director of the Second Wind Project and Dean for Workforce and Community Education at Central Wyoming College. The Second Wind Project is new comprehensive program aimed at helping young adults, between 18 and 21 years of age who have been in the juvenile justice system in Wyoming succeed in life and avoid entering the criminal justice system as adults. Targeted to begin early 2013, the program will be located on the Riverton and Lander campuses of Central Wyoming College. The Second Wind Project will provide vocational skills training, life skills development and counseling. Wyoming Chronicle producer Margaret Benson talks with Lynne McAuliffe about this ambitious and unique program.
